Just got back from a band rehearsal tonight where we spent most of our time trying to set up for recording some of our stuff. Only managed to get one song done. I just finished mixing and mastering it, This is the result... Suzanne Vega's Luka.

I'm playing Electric Guitar on this one (spot the mistake in the solo at the end  ). We are called The Blizzards and play in the Chamonix and Geneva area to ex-pats and ski bars, so most of our material is English/American.

Here's the line up and gear:
Simon - Acoustic Guitar (Takamine + PODX3 Live)
Sarah - Bass/Vocals (Fender Jazzmaster + VAMP Bass)
Neil - Drums (Pearl Export + Sabian)
Jim (Hans) - The Electric Git (OLP MM1F + POD XT)

I've always liked this one.
Good job. Its a bit bassy though I think. Could just be my setup though?

Thanks for listening, guys. I believe you are both right, bass goes down a touch...voice needs to go up. She sings very quietly but that adds to the voice I think.

A very good job mate.Nice live feel to it.The mix needs a bit of compression to bring the vocal up and bit of re-eqing to lose a bit of bass.:thumb:

Howdy Sky, Lippy and Macman. Thanks for taking the time to listen, I really appreciate the feedback and have passed it on to the rest of the band, especially the voice compliments, LOL.

The electric tone is from the POD XT, I can post the patch if you like.

Very cool and neat playing, I liked the live vibe on it too. Brings back memories, both for when this song came out and when I covered this one here last year or so with one of our great female singers on the board. Speaking about the pod patch for this song, I think I still have it around here if you want it.

I would agree about the mix being bass heavy and low on the vocals, but your vocalist is wonderful...tender and sultry as this song should be sung. The band sounds very tight and well rehearsed. You guys did very well here. I enjoyed it much more over the SV version to be honest. Just more pleasing sonically. Cheers guys!

I agree, a little compression on the vocal, needs to be out front a little more, maybe change the eq on the bass a little. Never cared for the SV version of the song either, but I've listened to this one 3 or 4 times and really enjoyed it. I can imagine it sounds great live judging from what I'm hearing here.....loved the ending too....If you hadn't pointed it out I probably would have thought it was supposed be that way :-) Guitar sounded great by the way.

Ooops almost missed this somehow??? Anyway, I really enjoyed this, love listening to full bands. Nice guitar work and tone from you Hans and your singer is really good. Reminds me of someone but cannot for the life of me think who it is. Quality stuff mate, can't wait to here more.:thumb:

One thing to remember is that when you record live it shows up any cracks and flaws , it is unforgiving in its replication . So its impressive to hear this as i can well imagine you guys sound even better live . I like the rhythm guitar , nice compressed plucky sound and i dont mind the blob at all . Vox could be a tad louder but shes got it and i know for certain live Sarah will kick ass .

Dude how i would love to be sitting in a pub in Geneva listening to you guys , but as it is sitting in Smoggy land will suffice for the time bieng .

Good stuff 5sssssss all round .

You guys have a good sound ... nice to hear another female singer and the combination with the jangly guitars is really cool.

Heard the same things with the bass and vox, but considering a live take... KUDO's! This was a more pleasing interpetation, from the performances, vibe and unity that comes across. I'd pay money to sit and listen with beer in hand, soaking up the "feel good" you guys generate!!
