He's blocked the serial number...and he's playing out some "I'm been hurt by scammers" but I am not experienced enough with Gibsons (and not lucky enough to own one) to be able to notice the obvious.
What's the issue? The deal on a 4600 dollar gibson seems to good to be true...What am I missing? I bet Parkie knows...he's got a Gibbo.

Gas (Petrol) is really expensive these days. What about a damn coffee? Fuck! It went from 100 pesetas to 1.10 Euros in a matter of months! To hell with Gibsons.

Is it the set neck? Gibson's are usually one piece/through body.

The machine heads on the 1st pic are tulips in gold, the picture with the serial number and all the others the machine heads are smaller klusons I think?A bit dodgy!,The headstock of the first pic is from another guitar!!:maddance:Also the bridge isn't a proper gibson one(no finger wheels)Also,to my knowledge,Gibson haven't done that type of inlay on any les paul that I know of.This could be one of those chinese replicas you see on e-bay regularly!!This man is a twat!!!

Lippy Hit It on the Nose!!
I Had a quick look and the Inlay is not a Gibson product nor has it been part of the custom shop series as far as i know....and the tail piece and bridge are off as well( bang on Lippy) the other thing is that the neck looks niether like a 50's classic or a 60's slim taper. The safe money is that this is a Chinese product.:upset:
Its too bad we cant get a real closeup of the Gibson Logo and Pearly Gates Embelem triangular mother of pearl this would also be a dead give away.

Hi Great looking guitar.I have never seen one with inlay work like this do you have a blow up of the documentation on this guitar so i can read it?.
And are you the original owner of this guitar..it makes a difference to me about the history of the guitar before purchase. What Model name did this go under in the Custom Shop branding.

Yes you nailed it . This topic was pulled from a newsgroup . Its interesting because i never spotted anything at first .Telling fakes from pictures is quite an art in itself . My friend has a Chinese Jem 777 and a genuine one and i couldn't spot any differences :( . He then showed me 14 :tard: . The Gibson headstock looked odd and the plastic jack socket plate seemed cheap . Also nobody in their right mind would lay a cherished Les Paul resting neck down on a hard surface .
The Nigerian connection had me laughing too . Sadly its still up on offer . Cmon Ebay get this sorted !

Thats the thing that always worried me if i had to buy of E-bay, cos one i wouldn't have a clue what to look for in a genuine Gibson guitar (don't like em) :tard: , secondly i imagine you get quite afew tossers like this trying to scam ppl
If they don't pull it tho whats the betting some poor sod ends up buying that heap of shit , thats why i either build the guitars myself or atleast buy one where i can see the bloodything infront of me , so i know what im looking at (if its a guitar i know about ) :)

I love the way this clown thinks he's totally inconspicuous!
As though millions of people (with more knowledge than he obviously has) won't be checking it out.
All that shite about Nigeria is a scream. The option to collect in person (yeah ok) is funny too.
Tell you wot, one of you people with an Ebay account should send him a message saying
you are also living in Londonderry and want to pay a visit to view it.

I sent the question to him about 5 hours ago on a Sunday and still no Reply???.

Custom Shop models
Due to the popularity of the Les Paul guitar, hundreds of unendorsed imitations or copycat versions began to sell in the U.S. and overseas. Due to the lack of U.S. legislation addressing patent infringements or restricting import sales, the cheaply priced imitations created legal and financial problems for the Gibson Guitar Corporation. Although troublesome, there were overseas copycat companies that produced very high quality Les Paul and Stratocaster imitations.
4. Head stock inlay: One of the most duplicated models of les paul i see is the customs, these are for the most part the easiest to decipher. on a real les paul custom, the split diamond will be rather large, with the bottom points of the diamond reaching the top of the truss rod cover, with the top points going past the top tuning posts(or very close. and the side of the diamond touching, or very nearly touching the "a" and "b" tuning posts. On a fake the diamond will be much smaller, and have a very fake looking pearl inlay. The abalone used in real customs is one of the most appealing features, with obvious color variances (greens, purples, etc). Some of the newer customs will not be as obvious, but any newer custom should be selling upwards of $2,000 dollars.

the piccy he has of the headstock is real...see the diamond extends to the tuners..the snide has shorter diamonds, which is why hes shown that pic.
if he shows all the serial number and it ends in 448 hes fucked, i emailed him on these issues, see if i get a reply. :)
hope it gets pulled before some poor bastard parts with a large portion of it.
not a gibby person but that aint bad for $220 plus $120 postage!

Will Ebay actually do the bastard for an attempted fraudulent sale or will they just be satisfied they stopped that scam?

Not sure if you smoggies know of Colin Chamberlain ? . Anyhow Colin is a good friend of mine . Now some years back his wife decided to treat him to one of those fake Jem 777s
.http://www.putfile.com/pic/8065161
Colin already had an Original 777 plus a 555 and he thought it would be nice to have this strange , much talked about guitar in his collection , on top of that he was curious . So it was ordered .
I think he paid in total £150 give or take a penny .
Astonishingly about 3 days later it arrived . in a cardboard box all tagged with a cheeky little Ibanez booklet describing *How to look after your genuine Ibanez*and the appropriate allen keys . I asked Colin to bring it round so i could check it out and have a play , and he did . It looked very very nice , vine inlay , gold , whammy . Plugged in it sounded fine too , certainly not cheap . I asked Colin what was different compared to his original . He then alerted me to lots of things which apart from the un-scalloped top frets ,more things i would never spot .
On the whole it was a good guitar that sounded and played well . Its not however the real thing and i know several of these fakes have been appearing in shops and local magazines , asking ridiculous prices mainly because they have a seemingly genuine logo and serial number on the headstock .
Like the American Grey squirrel in its conquest of Britain reducing our native Reds to critical levels , if we don't stop the spread of these fakes , sooner or later nobody will have a clue whats genuine or not and then sites like Ebay will see a drastic downturn in its popularity and turnover and everybody will be getting fleeced and then we will have to declare war on China for ruining our Guitar industry .And then Superman will have to save the world .

Always wondered why Eddie disappeared so fast and so sudden. I very nearly bought what seemed to be a mint Burns Flyte off of him too! I did eventually get my red Ibanez 'V' from there (before he flit, obviously).
In fact Pete ... wasn't that where I first met you (since my family moved out of Roseworth back in the late 60s) and Chris was there too? Can't remember his name now, but your other little short-arse mate was checking out a white flying V copy & Chris was demoing it to him ...

Yeh, know Colin well ... me and Leftbass were in "Blaze" (later "Dirty Deeds") together with him around '91-'92. made contact every couple of years afterwards too. Last saw him when a few of us old Stocktonians went out for beer and curry with Wah on his homecoming tour, Feb '07.

Not sure mate, I thought I first met you in the HMV, but my memory is shot on a lot of things! By shortarse I take it you mean Tony with the goofy teeth? also that will have been one of those notoriously bad Fresher Flying V's. Remember Rigg from overload? Sky told me once that Eddie tried to get him to part exchange his Ibanez Explorer for one of those Fresher's. he thought Rigg was a bit new, Eddie was promptly told to to fuck off

S'ok Home Slice... us from the rest of the country prolly have something in common. We just need to talk about it! I used to live in Aylesbury which is quite near High Wycombe (where Wah lives now). I also spent a lot of my life in Bristol and Taunton in the west country (kinda near SteveG) and up in Leeds and Harrogate. Now I'm in near Geneva, but on the frog side of La Frontiere.
Where in Londonia are you?

nice work guys. i know this guy is a total loser for doing this but i also think that charging over $4000 for a guitar is a rip off too gibson. come on now. i have seen in musicians friend some very nice gibson les pauls that sell for around $1000 or less. that is a long way from $4000. how do they justify the extra $3000? better pickups? also does it really cost more than twice to make a gibson over an epiphone? i think most people who spend this kind of money on guitars are not musicians and these guitars hang like trophys on their walls. yea man its a 57 goldtop re-issue. cool huh? no i don't play but it sure looks cool doesn't it? being the proud owner of a 74 lespaul that i bought new when i was in highschool i admit they are nice guitars but are not worth over $1000.
