Yesterday, I noticed my front speakers in my surround system were sounding BLAH. :maddance:
For I while I've been noticing my centre channel speaker as being brighter sounding.
I had the speakers for 17 years.

What thery are : Acoustic Linear Systems Model 520 liquid cooled 5-200 watts / freq response 43Hz to 25Khz / 8ohms Impedence

4" Cone tweeter with high Frequency Control dial to the side
5 1/2" Mid range with Mid frequency Control dial to the side
12" woofer

The tweeter and mid-range aren't working / functioning. The woofer is all that is working.

So, I removed the front grill and the 2 speakers are mounted with screws to a plate, for each.
Once I inspected, they look prestine. No rips or tears, still nice and shiny.
However, I don't know about the two controls and the crossover. I'm not sure on connectivity and how it all works.

Is there a fuse inside that might have blown ?
Can the crossover "die" thus rendering the speaker signal non-functioning ?
Are the two control knobs the culprit ?

Ironic, it's the same on both speakers.

Any ideas ?

Are they hooked to the PC with mini-alligators? I say check the cables. Bend them every 3 inches or so and see if there´s some black spot in them.

They are 36 inches tall X 18 inches wide, hooked up to the front channels of my surround system. Not PC speakers. I'm using 14 gauge wire.

A co-worker recommended removing the woofer and looking inside with a flashlight for disconnected wires, blown fuse etc.
I'm gonna give that a try on the week-end.
