Hi everyone , my first time in the originals section with one of my own songs, although by far my first original song ive written i usually like to just keep them to myself but i thought well why not this time , ive been working on this over the past few weeks and im very happy with the way its turned out .
I have been suffering from a lack of desire on the electric guitar lately , well more with the tones and sound more then anything , hopefully im soon gonna solve that problem :D .. but i used both my custom and Ibanez for this, i also used my semi acoustic , i programmed all the instruments from scratch to, Jamie kindly added the bass for me on the electric sections , thanks alot Jam :)
This is currently one of the many songs im working on for my new album , with abit of luck i can keep adding to it as the year goes on :)
The song itself is about searching for whatever were looking for , deep within our own subconscious , its like a inner journey so to speak , although i suspect everyones would be diffrent :)
I do warn you that if your expecting a guitar fess then you will be dissapointed , its more of a all round instrumental which i tried to capture the feeling and essence of a orchestra , anyway i hope you enjoy it, unfortunatley ive had to upload it to sendspace as its to big for the normal upload :)

well mart, gotta be honest mate..this was a wierd experience for me.:wtf:
the keyboard intro didnt seem to have any direction...i felt plenty of tension with those strange minor voicings, but no kinda release!
i was releived when the classical guitar came in, pity that ended pretty quick as i could have had some more of that. :thumb:
the other passages reminded me of mike oldfield and played flawlessly, loved the mix, and the programmed instruments..its just after the track finished, i could have ripped up a phone book! lol
anyway, 1000 times better than anything i could come up with.
seems we have a closet wagner on the site!! :)
regards,
jim.

Thanks Jim for listening and for the feedback , i must admit im also more of a Satch / Blackmore instrumentalist but i dunno i just fancied trying more of orchestral approach from the start , i think the mainthing was tho that i was worried about keeping the guitaring fresh , especially with the length of the song aswell and kicking in with the guitars straight away i thought it would grow tiresome , although judging by how the guitars sounded to you it might not of been such of a problem as i thought lol
Its hard to explain, but the thought behind all of it really is like your on a journey, the deeper you go the diffrent parts of the journey you experience , i know it sounds really crackers lol but its like your constantly spinning and while your spinning your seeing / feeling parts of your life from the past, the present and possbly the future , i dunno how i can really explain it :headscratch:
Im glad you enjoy it anyway mate, maybe i will do some new acoustic/electric orienated intrumental originals soon , i have alot of ideas especially for acoustic instrumentals , so thats something to work on and perhaps to build on , maybe have alittle less of the orchestral instrumental side :)

no mate, love the orchestral idea! in fact, id like to hear more instruments..and appreciate the work that goes in the keying/programming of them.
it was just that it left me feeling kinda frustrated lol. be interesting to read other opinions.
" i have alot of ideas especially for acoustic instrumentals "
:upset:
im envious of you creativity!

jim.

Hey Mart, Really good to hear both you and Jamie doing some originals work. This is an Epic mate, great orchestral intro and the semi acoustic coming in sounded very nice. I can hear how this one takes you on a journey, good to have a theme behind the song and love how it changes mood. All the tones on this sound fantastic so funny to hear how you're not happy with them but that's always the way when you look at your own playing and tones, we all go through it, even Satriani according to some mags of mine. Well, loved listening to this one mate, fantastic work in all departments and top marks. Justin.:)

man awesome, the acoustic tone and playing is incredible. This is truly epic, you are def onto something here with a CD idea. This is just so beautiful. The electric guitar adds nice power to the track...
More please....

Epic. I hope one day to have the skills to put something like this together, need a PC that can run the tools first tho :maddance:
Reminded me of the Enid, a band I rate highly and an inevitable comparison. Very impressive on all counts, liked the mood changes and the tones all sounded great from here. Don't be shy in posting more :woot:

Gave this a good listen and want to explain why. With so much stuff being put up these days, we tend to find our 'focus group' and they respond...meaning, it's impossible to reply to every thread even IF people do to yours. So, there's a solid listenership of people for most of us here and it's a way of getting (mainly) positive feedback BUT that's not the reason for it. Lack of time is the main reason for not replying to other people's posts.
So, looking for something that might be a bit different, I found your thread which you labelled, 'a bit different' and there you have the reasoning. Given that you have a style which you're comfortable with ( a lot of your threads will start with 'don't know of the band' or 'never heard these before'), and one that's very strong, it was interesting to hear that you were a bit jaded with tones etc so wanted to hear what you'd done.
This is major league plans but with only a storyboard IMO. The orchestral section was 'nice' but I found for the various pieces, you relied to heavily on an uni-inspired drum track to bring it all back in. I just couldn't get a hook to the stuff but loved the acoustic work as it made such an aural difference to the beginning...it moved the song along. But I felt the drum fills are probably only for reference as they don't convey any change to the piece?
I think you're going thru a logical step where you want to be more than just a player but I feel (like many of us) it'll be a slow process but one that will make you more of the musician you want to be.
Wordy but honest and hope it's seen in that light. :thumb:

Well Mart i gotta say i loved this, the orchestral start was like the prelude to the journey, which was a beautiful arrangement, complex, but never getting lost, the acoustic in particular really adds something unique to that section too.
Once the almost heartbeat like drum kicks in, it take to a new direction, darker, very emotional to my ears, again, lovely arrangement of the strings, and the section ends very nicely with the effects.
The next section i think is just full of suprises, the drums hint at change in the air, when the guitars and harmonys start, its just magic, to bring that to the piece, and not a hint of Blackmore or anyone else that we all associate with your normal guitar work, just brilliant  , and the final section ties things up in a very calm and controlled manner, like the journey is done, time for rest and reflection.
I've heard alot of your own songs, you're a very talented writer and musician, and for all the pieces you could of posted, you went with a concept piece, which i think is very brave, you could have easily taken the easy route (like i did with Phantom lol) and just put up a rock song, get the thumbs up, but to go with a song as out there as this, to me shows so much more, it might not be everyones cuppa tea, but imo its epic, and from the replys, i can see i'm not the only one
Life is a journey for everyone. But we all have that inner journey within ourselves. Its a struggle to find that inner peace, but when we do our journey outside ourselves can become less of a struggle. We can find that happy place. For you to share this beautiful passionate piece with of all us,i thank you!.We for a short while took a journey with you.You are that musician you want to be(now).I also agree on the part about not just jumping right into guitar on this, because what you have here has so many colors. It's so epic, like sitting in a theater feeling the passion and emotion, and when those drums kicked in ,man was that tense, lol. It was like walking infront of a firing squad. Then bam, your free...Amazing piece Martyn

Thanks alot for listening and for your replys guys/gal :) .. i can respect that its not everyones cup of tea and that alot of ppl just want to hear guitars with vocals you know pretty much like your standard rock songs , but for me personally i enjoy alot of diffrent variety music wise and when i write something as a rule i always like to try to put across a diffrent feeling with what i do as i don't really enjoy just creating music that sounds similar to other ppl or trying to emulate my hero's .
Music is about expression and writing music is about self expression , the lasthing i wanted to do was to put up a original then someone say to me "oh well you sound like Ritchie Blackmore or Joe Satriani ", although they influence me along with a vast amount of other musicians i kept to what i felt was true and imo trying to clone other ppl or sound like other ppl is a no no for me lol on originals, i want them all sounding like me which is why i put this up here :)
Once again tho i thank everyone for taking a listen and i respect the fact that this is not to everyones tastes either :)
