Hi I just went out a purchased a new 08 Schecter HellRaiser Diamond Series with the Floyd rose. It has EMG active pickups,..my question is what is an active pickup! I'm a strat player and wanted something more ballsy for the new band and I never play an active pickup guitar. I have no clue what an active pickup is!!?
Thank you for any info on this!

Basically what a Active pickup is Johnny, is that it has a low magnetic field with a low output , then its signal is boosted by alittle pre-amp instead of relying on the magnetic field so much, they were designed to reduce hum from pickups , can't say ive tried one personally but alot of ppl say they are excellent :)

Looks a beauty mate, always loved the maple top finishes, and imo the green, red and blues look the best, as yours is a fine example of, big congrats on the purchase :)
On the active pickups, just to add to what Mart said, i believe Actives allow harmonics easier too, i've never used any either (bass guitar aside), but i'm betting they're very quiet, hopefully it sounds as sweet as it looks :thumb:

Thanks everyone! I just have to get used to the Floyd Rose. Man,..what a bitch to restring and tune. I did manage to get it all set up and it really rips now! It's got push-pull coil taps on both pickups and I gotta say,..it's a very quiet guitar and very ballsy aswell. It has a very fast neck and real nice feel now after the setup! Should be a blast to play out live with! I'll bring my Strat also,..because I wouldn't want to break a string on this new one in the middle of a song!,..wow,..talk about going out of tune when that happens. wooohooo!!
Thanks again!

Try the WCR hercules pickup for the bridge position. Awesome tone, crunch and harmonics. Good for a range of styles too.

Thanks bro! I always wanted a Schecter and really like the feel of this guitar. The Extra Jumbo frets are different,..but I like them. I can really dig under them. The new 2008 Hellraiser models come with the coil taps and a 5 way switch. The previous Hellraiser didn't and only had a 3 way switch. So I'll be able to get some great tones out of it! From Strat to all out balls!!
I did take back the Floyd Rose version in the pic above and ordered a Hard Tail. I'm not a trem guy,..but I figured I'd give it a shot and It just didn't work out for me. Even all my strats are locked down. It's just not me. But,..I gotta tell you,..these schecter's are nice guitars man. Built very good and sound amazing. For the $900.00 spent,..it was worth it. I can't see buying an expensive guitar to beat up playing live,..ya know! This was just what I was looking for! Plus,.I wanted to be different. These guitars rip and I'm very picky when it comes to guitars.
Thanks again man!
I'll post some pics when it comes in,..they said about 3 weeks,....I got about 2 weeks left to wait!!,...(bummer)

that is a beautifull guitar. i agree with you about going hardtail. in my case with playing out live i just can't deal with the constant tuning and after a string breaking the guitar goes so far out of tune you can no longer play it.

Yeah that's my whole beef with trem guitars. Man,..imagine 1/2 way through a song and a string breaks,.that would suck. Hard tails for me always. At least if you break a string you can adjust and get the song done without looking like some ahole,..ya know!!?
Thanks again man!

The only thing I can add here is when you're not using your Schecter, unplug the cable. It will seriously help with battery life for those EMG's.
Carry on!

Yeah it's a nice looking guitar mate. :thumb:
I had a Schecter Precision back in '98 it was an excellent bass! I took it back to the shop though cos Epiphone had just started exporting the Thunderbird IV's and I just had to spend me money on one of them instead.

Epi's are nice too man! I have a few epi's and love them! I like the scheter hellraiser because of the X jombo fret wire and the wide neck!
