I've also been checkin' out that guitar idol buzz recently,and i really don't like GG's tune there man,i think it's complete blah! He's a technically proficient player no doubt,but there's a hell of a lot of dudes i'd go for over him,based on their tunes alone. A foley artist is or are the people who overdub all the sound effects for movies or film.
They use watermellon's to make the sound of heads being crushed or sheet metal hit with a hammer to make the sound of thunder and so on.

The easiest way would be to import the video to Cubase or a similar program. Cubase will separate the audio and video in to separate tracks from what I remember. I've done it before when I just needed the audio track and didn't have a copy of a song. I think Adobe Soundbooth with work also, but haven't tried it.
