Hi guys, another track of my work-in-progress album "The Phantom Groove", this one is called "Day Dream Jamin' " :)

The song is about dreamland, i think everyone slips off into their own little world from time to time, and you don't always have to be asleep for the mind to wonder, and thats basically what inspired the feel of the song, dreams of past, present and future, of happy sunny days and the occasional storm :)

On the making of side, the kick drum was programmed (one note, looped, oh the work involved  ) everything else i played, if you listen carefully you'll hear bass, acoustics, electric guitars, harmonica and the shaker
I've been working on it, on and off for about 4 weeks, and i gotta say i'm very pleased with it, as always you'll probably hear some of my infuences about, but i think this one has alot of me in it, hope you enjoy it, and thanks for taking a listen :thumb:

Wow, Jamie, this sounds like it could have been pulled right off a Joe Satriani album, as far as the feel/style goes and some of the licks. I don't know if that is what you meant by some of your influences coming through, but this, to me, has Satch infused throughout. I hope you consider that a compliment, mate. Satch is one of my all-time biggest influences, so I mean that in a good way. Very nicely put together and it sounds great even through my crappy headphones I have at work. :) I'll be saving this one. Tis a great "Sunday afternoon around the house" song. :guitar:

Cheers Jeff, the Satch thing i definately take as a compliment, i love his work and its hard not to bring some of what his music (among others) has taught me to my own music, which i think is fine providing the whole album doesn't end up as a Satch tribute  , but i definately don't think that will happen :)

Thanks for taking a listen, i appreciate it, and the very kind reply :thumb:

Thanks Jim, glad you liked it :)
Its nice to be able to do something abit more upbeat from time to time, i think my lead is always abit Satchy and thats definately a main feature of the song, and in the layering i think there are quite few different influences in there.
Alot of the little harmony riffs are pinched and tapped harmonics, to give that kinda dreamy feel, which is maybe alot more Morse in style, and hopefully alot of the other areas also come through, not just my Satch style lead, cus there's quite abit going on :)

Thanks again everyone :thumb:

This is very excellent work Jamie. You are a unique musician my friend, I really like the way you are not a clone of a single musician as it makes this sound so original. This sounded extremely original, enjoyed it a lot and the title of song works for the vibe of the music. :thumb:

Everything on this was excellent and I love the mix and final production. It is beautiful CD quality work...Was this all put together in Adobe Audition 3....?

Anyways I would buy a CD of your original work for sure.:D

cheers mark

Yeah, everything i do is mixed in Adobe these days, all the tracks are recorded in Audacity then exported as wavs, imported into Adobe and mixed, mastered.
For me its made the world of difference in terms of the final product, even though i don't have alot of the resources available that i know others do, i think my mixes are pretty good, having listened to a number of my tracks on various systems, so its very nice to get some feedback on that side of things too :)
Thank you also for the kind comments on the songs originality too, my playing style is there for everyone to hear, and there is no denying that i've learnt alot from the musicians i love, i think everyone brings their influences and way of doing things to their own music, much in the same way the likes of Steve Vai mirror Frank Zappa, not that i'm compairing myself to either of them lol, but on the flip side of that, its very flattering to have a song like'ned to Satch, when its something i've written and produced, thats kinda nice too :)

Thanks again everyone :thumb:

Well this is just a class composition. Definately one of my favourite originals since ive been here. The mix is awesome, every instrument comes through clear as a bell. Loved the lead tone and the way you left space for the tune to breathe, when the lead is played the phrasing is great and lovely vibrato!!!! Also liked the harmonica really gave it a sort of Southern US vibe.Very infectious tune Avalon, the main hook you play just keeps going round in my head. Awesome stuff mate.

Wonderful tune Jam. I always love your song arrangement, and for me arranging and structuring a tune is an art in itself. Lovely layers on this, loved the harmonica how it sits so well in the mix, and very melodic guitar work too. You can sit back for ages listening, great beat to this also. Really enjoyed listening to this one mate, top work as usual.:thumb:

Love stuff like this bigtime!
Cool cool beat, and the soundscapes are great...love the spacy feel and intertweaning lines here and there.
Would feel well in a Indie movie scene...

Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the very kind comment :)

For me it was very important not to over-do the lead, i didn't want anything remotely fast in there really, or anything that heavy or distorted tonewise, like you say, leaving the space to breathe, and its not often i get the chance to do that, so i wanted to get it right and hopefully i did :)
Big ty again Stereo :thumb:

The arrangement and structuring is something that i love, this song maybe doesn't have as many suprises in its structure as The Phantom Groove did, it starts as it means to go on, but there was still alot of thinking going on in the other areas :)
The layers in particular i tried to get complimenting the lead, sometimes harmonising with it, and at other times continueing on from it, i just felt when there is some control to the main melody of the song, and the solos too, that it opens up the mix for some hopefully cool supporting lead :)
Thanks again mate, and i really appreciate the kind comment :thumb:

Thanks Rid, glad you enoyed it too, and thanks for the kind comment

The beat is a very simple but effective driving force, and with the Harp too, i think it lends itself to that Southern feel as Stereo mentioned, and i'm glad you enjoyed the spacey feel of everything, thats what i was aiming for, so i'm really glad that came across well :)
Thanks again mate :yourock:

Excellent work on this Jam , i like the way it progress's and the direction it takes , it reminds me abit of Satch with the acoustic arrangement , with a hint of Morse to but the electric , harmonica definetly have your own style and touch to them which sounds excellent , like Stereo also mentioned the mix is crystal clear with every instrument being heard :headbang:
I think this is one of your best originals so far , just shows n all that you don't have to shred to have a fantastic sounding song , 5 stars :)

why doesn't this song suprise me? with all the covers and backing tracks you have done and mastered it was just a matter of time before your writing talents kicked in. the nice thing about it is how much it is structured. its not just doodling over a backer or a rhythm. it has distinct melody lines and verses and chorus and solos but always going back to the melody. this is what you learned from satriani whether you know it or not. it has that kind of flow and structure and that is why this is such an awsome song.

The mix is always such and important part in the process, when things have gone well its very enjoyable too, and its great to be getting so much nice feedback on that side of things aswell as the song itself, and there's definately some Southern rock in there, with the harp, the acoustics and the beat stomping along :)
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks again mate :yourock:

Writing is why i started out in the first place really, i thought if i could learn the trade copying other ppls songs from scratch and make a decent job of it, then i would learn the skills to make my own music come to life, and i think it worked, but you probably know better then anyone else here how far i've come in the last 3 years :)

Thanks again mate :yourock:
