Just wondering if any of you know of any good sites / detailed information on how to understand Hijack This logs and how to follow the output in order to remove spyware and not remove any false positives.

I know you can submit your log for experts for review, but was wondering if any of you out there consider yourselves experts, and if so, how do you go about getting the knowledge to do the removal yourself ?

I am clearly no expert at all. I do use it quite often though (about 2 yrs now about every other week). You can get a feel from using it many times of what should be there and what should not. At first I used it very cautiously, but now I just point and shoot and can see what looks "out of the ordinary" and jump on that. For example, any entry with like xjjjkk.dll or something crazy is not a Microsoft file or any other legitimate company. Look for those odd names. Those are easy to spot. Other things are those Browser Helper Objects. Check those carefully.

You can also study what others are posting and what the numerous boards say to remove. By that, you get a good comparison and baseline for what should be left alone. Use it on a test machine if possible. I think it took about 6 months or so for me to get aggressive with it and sure of what I was removing to the point I could use it without backing up a PC.

It's plenty powerful.
