Hi guys, here's another track i've just finished for my album, The Phantom Groove, and the song is called "The Darkest Day (The Purple Sky)".
This song i actually started writing almost two years ago now, i'd got about 5mins through the backing track, but lost interest and there on for months i'd take alittle look at it again, until last weekend i bacame inspired, and decided to take another look at it.
I don't want to ruin the listening by telling exactly what to expect from each part of this song, but the first half is about war, and the people who start something, only to send someone else to fight it, this part is called "The Darkest Day".
The second half changes alot, with the lyrics becoming far more personal, this half tells one persons story of being the tool at someone elses disposal, and how his thoughts of happier times are all that keeps him going, this part is called "The Purple Sky".
I'm really proud of this piece, i think musically, its my best work so far (maybe ever will do), and i hope the lyrics are as powerful as they are to me, because i feel this one is something special.
Anyhow, moving away from the meaning and towards the construction, the drums were programmed from scratch by me, i play all instruments, sing all vocals and harmonys.
And making a special guest appearance, Mart (Bahamut) plays the the lead solo later on in the track (you'll hear me harmonising to it behind), big thank you for joining me on this Mart, and for what it brings to that section of the song :yourock:
Big thank you in advance for taking a listen, hope you like what i've done and where i've gone with this :thumb:

ummmm... what to say? Ive listened to this 5 times and started writing replies but stopped and deleted as i couldn't write what i was thinking. Probably because it sounded corny and too OTT. But what the fuck here goes.
The opening was equal to any epic movie score ive heard, the dynamics were awesome and drew me into wanting to hear the main part of the song kick in. When it did the vocal, excellent lyrics and mood was very fitting to the subject, very powerful and i think i could tell that you feel quite strongly about the subject matter.
The second part fitted seamlessly in music terms, the lyrics and a softer change in pitch in your vocals and expression had me feeling real empathy with the character you were writing about. I think the line ' you'll sleep safe tonight' took the 2 parts of the track and merged it!
Bahamuts solo was awesome! You harmonising it made the whole section epic.
Im not sure if ive written what i wanted to say, i have a thousand questions about this but safe to say ( if you haven't already guessed) loved the whole thing and like Macman, ill be buying the album. I hope this gets as many views as the covers forum. Plenty of stars from me.

Well Jam,
I thought this was a very mature, well written and played song. I don't want to list what I liked because I loved every second from start to finish and don't want to spoil the song for others with a running commentary LOL. Vocals & harmonies were top draw and the solo by Mart with your harmonies were masterfully played with great tone and expression which echo throughout the song. I always love your stuff mate but I'll agree with you and say this contains some of your best work I've heard so far. This was obscenely good my friend. Top marks. :thumb:

Big thank you for the very kind reply Stereo :yourock:
I'm so proud of this piece, i can't put that in to words really, but its always the proof of the pudding to put it under the microscope for everyone to see, and then find out if its really something quite good or wheather its just dribble lol.
As i was writing this for a start, i'd never of dreamed what it would turn out like in the end, the first 4 or 5 minutes had been sitting on my hard drive for nearly two years, although in a different context in some parts, after i finished "Day Dream Jamin", i was straight away thinking, maybe its time to look at that song again.
I gave the intro a revamp, the next section remained about the same, but updated a few instruments, then i started work on the next section that was yet to be writen, and here we are.
From the moment i'd finished the that section, lyrically, i had a good idea of what i wanted to do there, and maybe what i could do in the proceeding section to compliment that, and tell more of the story, but from the other side, and i'm glad you found the lyrics to work well, and carry the meaning :)
Thanks again mate, i really appreciate it :thumb:

Big thank you Justin, and glad you enjoyed it too :yourock:
I'm always quite hard on myself musically, but i feel this sounded good even to me lol, so its great to be getting some very possitive replies, and where as maybe my previous 2 songs were maybe a good listen, i feel this one has so much more substance to it throughout, so it makes your very kind words mean even more :)
Thanks again mate, and to everyone who's listened so far
:banana:That was a very nice time spent with this tune guys...
Loved it...no need to add to the other comments....sky full of stars!

Beautiful song is this Jam , im glad really we didn't work on it together properly like we were going to cos i think with the direction you took it, would of been hard to of even come close to it :) .. so thankfully i got to hear you take it your own way and made it into a song that really does hit deep down .
The way you writ the lyrics reminds me a hell of alot like Ian Gillan , theres nothing worse then hearing straight up rhyming lyrics , but you managed to write the lyrics and use them powerfully in the song itself , not a easy thing to do imo, then the build up of the rest of the instruments sound fantastic aswell and gel with everything thats going on , then finally the guitars sound excellent to with some delicate playing with feeling right throughout , even that muppet on the middle solo did great
Easily your best original piece to date and a song that sticks in ones thoughts after listening to it :) .. thanks for asking me to do the middle solo to , i was proud to be part of such a fantastic song, fantastic work Jam , 5 stars :)

Thanks Jim, yeah i'm very proud of this one, the whole song is a journey, and in someways it feels like the completion of a journey for me personally too, i was thinking back a while, and its almost 3 years to the day since i built my very first BT that i uploaded on 101, it seems such a long long time ago, and to listen to this 3 years on, its extremely pleasing, as its why i started out in the first place really, that and to improve my other abilitys, and i feel i've achieved so much more then just that :)
Thanks again mate :thumb:

Thanks Mart, and like you say, the direction changed quite abit from where i started out, i got flowing the first time when i started it, which didn't give you much involvement, then i only when i did it again when i finally came back to it  , so sorry on that count, but it makes me think where it would have gone with both our styles on it, guess we'll never know :)
A big thank you for taking part on the solo though, that was really cool, and great to have you take part in it, hopefully i as work on some more tracks i can get a few more of of the "Class Of GB" crew in for some guest appearences, and anyone who's up for that, drop me a PM :thumb:
Thanks again everyone :yourock:
