Hi Guys,

Well, as some of you know, I'm also a keyboardist (still really is my main instrument!) and thought I'd tickle the ivories a bit for a change. Came across this great funky BT from the Petrucci forum and thought I'd give it a bash. It has a guitarish vibe, I've not used a synth sound that sounds like a calculator LOL. anyways, just another side of my playing that you may or may not want to heard.LOL

Here it is:

P.S I think this would make a good collab jam one day here.:)

love it sounds like something by Vai, bu on keys. Love the harmonics and effects.

Hey Hans, thanks for checking it out. I programmed the keyboard patch myself using Reason 3 (which is a nice little v.studio). Have not been keeping up my keyboard skills lately so was a nice change soloing on a keyboard. Thanks again for listening Bro. :)

Cheers Mark, thanks for listening Bro. The harmonic type stuff was a filter I set on my pitch stick, so when I push up a little it'll morph into that harmonic type sound and pushed all the way will give you a wahwah effect so everything in this solo is me playing the notes with my right hand and bending & making those effects in my left. Glad you enjoyed. The BT for this is very very long so does'nt need looping. I'll post it up here when I get a moment for anyone who has't already got it.:)

Cheers for checking it out LB, and yep, I can always lend a hand on the keyboard front (time & Wife permitting LOL!). Thanks again :)

Wow, Justin that was very cool! Excellent playing on those keys mate. I can't say ive ever heard a key solo done like that before ( as if you would on a guitar so to speak). Excellent mate, cool backer too. Loved it.

Love it! Your recent mention of synthz obviously brings comparisons...it's the type of lead voice he would use....loved the playing...kinda Derek Sherinian with the harmonic touches.

What synth or module do you se mate? Korg I'm guessing...prolly wrong! I have a JV1080 with an orchestral and world card but thinking of getting it on eBay as I never use it.

We should do something similar with guitar and keys....if I ever get this house move finished! :dj:

Hey Andy, thanks mate, well keyboard playing was the first thing I did way back as a kid, and then guitar envy kicked in LOL, so did all I could to be able to play guitar like solos on keyboard but then decided that the only way to get the true expression was to learn guitar (at a very late age of 22 LOL). Thanks again mate, I'll post up the BT at some point soon.:)

Thanks for listening Chris, Yeah what with talking about Synthz and listening your duel, got me in the mood to get back into doing a keyboard solo improv. I made the lead keyboard sound using Props Reason 3. Thanks dude for listening.

And Chris, yeah would be good to do a collab one day with you on Guitar and me on keys, that would be good fun, time permitting and all. I reckon you'll get a good price on Ebay for the JV. They are pretty sought after by keyboardists, its a real classic.

Awesome playing mate, had a real Jordan Rudess feel to it, would love to get you on a song sometime, maybe a nice Petrucci vs Rudess track (something for the future maybe :) ), but i really enjoyed this mate, you're just a cracking musician on all fronts, and a big 5 for this from me :thumb:

Thanks very much Jam, The likes of Rudess, Sherinian, Jens Johansson, not to mention my main influence Jan Hammer have had a big effect on my keyboard playing and its great to switch instruments (as you know!) and get a fresh perspective on things. A JP vs Rudess track would be a very cool idea, defo something for the future. Glad you liked it, not all guitarists want to hear this sort of thing so thanks for taking the time Bro. :)

Well you know i hold you in high regard as a guitarist and musician mate , it takes some doing to be decent on the guitar to a degree but to also just play the keyboard to same high standards does say to me the quality musician you are , clearly from listening to this song you played over is just a small example of how talented you are on that keyboard :headbang:
Sounds alot like good ol Rudess but i suppose with the bt coming of a JP forum its bound to have that DT feeling to it , so it just screams for that kinda style of keyboarding to be played over it , which is exactly what you did with finesse and style Justin , lol you must get fed up of me praising you so much haha
Still in honesty i respect most of the guitarists, musicians on this forum , some are very talented but the funny thing is that your one of the very few i can listen to and i come out with goosebumps while listening to you?? , lol odd i know but your playing style both keyboard and guitars is so unique to me
One of the only other songs ive listened to that still does that to me is Joe Satriani's , Flying In A Blue Dream
Anyway 5 stars mate on a fantastic little piece , and bollocks to what other guitarists want , you keep playing on those keyboards as long as you feel like it Justin :)

Thanks very much Mart for having a listen. Well, it was the keyboard that I first took up when I was a kid, and somehow managed to transfer what I learnt (I'm self taught on both) to guitar eventually. I think when you grab a pitch stick or wheel, things automatically start to sound like Jan Hammer or Rudess and the like cause they're the ones made famous by it. With the keyboard I'm a lot more confident cause you can see exactly where you are going scale wise, with the guitar, for its all by ear and luck! LOL. Always appreciate your comments Bro, you are too kind as always. Thanks again.

PS. Did'nt expect stars for a keyboard piece so thanks very much ALL!.
