Did this song on my first album in 1999. Always hated the production aspect of it, so I re-recorded the entire thing with all my new gear and new knowledge I've learned over the years. I'll be re-recording about 5 tunes from my first album to make a "best of" cd for major shopping.

I had a good time with this tune and it was nearly 100 tracks of audio. (97 to be exact) The biggest challenge was the 40 voice choir I added. Quite a nightmare, but well worth the effort for a tune like this. :)

I figured a few of you may enjoy this piece especially the few friends I have on this site. It's a bit religious and I don't consider myself a Christian rocker, but I have never held back my beliefs in God or my love for Him. This is just a prayer to Him since the world is pretty much going to crap and our beloved leaders and scientists haven't done a thing to really help us. The song is called "Save Us". Enjoy and thanks for listening! :)

Danny! Very nice man! Has a real 80s feel to it. I like it man! Cross between Survivor and Styx IMO. The production was,..well,..Fcking awesome,..and your guitar playing is all pro,. as it always is! Man you friggin rock bro. Very pro all over this track! Thanks for posting it bro!

:naughty:
As for our leaders and scientists,..YES please do something about all that is wrong hear. We need help and fast! I have to sell my boat,..because I can't afford to run it anymore. After the boat,..then will come my truck,..because it runs me 60 to 80 a week to go to work..(only),.no pleasure drives. It really is bad anymore! We need electric cars or something that doesn't take most of our pay checks to run!
What's gonna happen in a few years when gas hits 8 to 10 dollars a gallon and no one will be able to get to work!?? Oh,.I know,..major crime!??

Great stuff Danny. I can hear stuff like Steelheart, Blue Murder and Guffria in this; distinct 80's early 90's feel thank GOD cos that's what I love for AOR and hard rock. Guitar playing is exemplary as always but the voice really knocked my socks off. Did you do the drums also? Loved the key changes in the solo...very effective. Did I mention the solo???? Excellent playing and tone to die for. Like a more aggresive Dan Huff...same sense of melody just a bit more meat.

All in all I thought it was one of the most ambitious, well produced things I've ever heard on the site. Brilliant.

footnote...I wrote a song with Geordie about dealing with all the world problems that had a similar sentiment but I probably thought God was sleeping. I'm not religious but I'd like to have faith in something. :thumb:

Thanks Johnny, glad ya dug it bro! Sorry to hear about your boat....that sucks! This gas crap is really starting to get annoying. I drive down to Mays Landing 3 times a week which is about 40 mins for me....would you believe I'm getting 27mpg in a Z06 Corvette?! I still can't believe it...and I gas up every 2 weeks. But jump on it once, and you get 0mpg and you're at the pumps fillin the tank at $65.00! LOL!!

Chris: Thanks so much for the kind words man, I really appreciate them. I'm a huge Dann Huff fan! Glad ya liked the production, vox and sounds bro, means a lot!

Yeah that's me physically playing everything on that. Drums were done on Roland V Drums, then the midi was run into BFD 2, and then Drumagog for additional samples. So it's 3 drum kits at once all mixed and tuned at the same time. Quite tedious to do, but well worth the effort for the big 80's sound.

It's funny you mention the whole "God sleeping" thing. I've thought that myself many times. I think He does that for a reason though man....ever notice sometimes it takes a horrible experience for us to sometimes change our path, or we most times learn something from it? I think He allows this stuff to happen because it's the only way we'll make a change. Most times when horrible stuff happens, we end up better off than we were before the storm.

Definitely believe bro, I know it's not easy sometimes...I've been having a few issues since my mother passed last August, but that's only because I was expecting to see a sign from her or God. I'm a bit of a spoiled brat sometimes when I feel I've been a good person and have never really asked God for anything other than health for my friends and family. I just wanted a sign....but, who am I to ask for or get a sign? I'm just a grain of sand, ya know? We gotta believe in something, I totally agree. Thanks again Chris! ;)

This is an awesome piece of music Danny, having listened a good few times to this the thing that strikes me the most is the lyrics. IMHO you have managed to walk a guitar string width between a song (prayer) about your faith and a song about what is wrong with the world today and at the same time get your feelings on both subjects across. This must have been really difficult to do? I love songs and songwriting in particular more fascinating than guitar playing to be honest. ( Don't get me wrong in my relatively short time in playing i have learned to appreciate and be blown away by guitar playing) I honestly think the writing aspect of this track equals your playing and production on everything ive heard of yours. Ill not say betters, because your playing is phenomenal. Safe to say, this tune struck a chord with me. Im not one who airs my religious or political views much, if it all but if i were to then a song as well written as this would help me get a load off. Inspirational!

Thanks Stereo, that's very kind of you. :) Nah it wasn't difficult at all because I never set out to do this. If you were to tell me "ok Danny, I need you to write me a song specifically walking a guitar string width between a song (prayer) about your faith and a song about what is wrong with the world today and at the same time, you have to get your feelings on both subjects across" I'd probably look at you sideways like a dog does when he's confused. LMAO!!

The best songs in my opinion are the ones that just come to you out of nowhere. Of course it helps to be inspired, but sometimes inspiration can be so intense, it can literally pull you away from your original idea. This song literally wrote itself. One day I heard the riff for the verse in my head. You know, the low C dada da da dada da da...which stays the same...then the keyboard line came to me and the keys actually help the chords change because they go from Cmin to G#m, yet the guitar and bass stays in C. This gave the sound of the verses an eerie sort of feel. From there, the solo section was written and there wasn't even a chorus yet. Once I had all that, I was like...ok great, nice verse line, nice solo section, no chorus, no lyrics....wtf?!

A few days later I kept on hearing this line in my head "Save us, from ourselves". I had no clue what it would mean or what the topic would be about. So I got to thinking, what or who could save us from ourselves? God perhaps? Hmmm, I really don't wanna go down this road as I'm not a Christian rocker, but I do pray everyday and do believe in God. Oh heck, the only one I know that can save the world at this point is God. So maybe I'll write about him...nah, I don't think I can do that...what if I sort of talked to God the way I normally do and just sort of prayed to him in a tune in my own way?

I liked that idea the best, so I started thinking about the things I say to God when I pray, what I heard from other people about the world, what my own thoughts about the world were etc and I just ran with it. After getting that all done, I still felt something was missing. It just needed some sort of climax with power. It needed a bridge after the solo! At the time I wrote this, I had just lost a friend in the military in some skirmish. It bothered me that our hero's go to war with "peace" in mind and are pretty much forgotten when they die by most people.

So the lyrics just came to me with the whole "we trust in our leaders" part for that final bridge, and the song was complete...or so I thought! LOL!! I wanted some sort of beginning that didn't just go into the riff. I starting messing with instrumental beginnings, synth parts, and then I came across a pipe organ sound on my keyboard. The sound made the hair on my arms stand, so I messed with it, and came up with the pipe organ beginning. Finally the song was done. LOL! There are 3 different versions of the song with different chorus parts that have been changed over the years. The one you hear now is the one I felt hit the hardest. Glad ya liked it and it's inspired you bro, thanks very much! :)

Hey Danny , Nice surprise to come here and see a tune of yours posted! I dont come here that much anymore.

Really liked the tune .Always awesome production and only you could use 97 tracks hahaha ....you perfectionist ! Very catchy lyrics on the chorus and very inspirational. Its good to have uplifting thoughts . We need them at this time for sure . Is good message indeed. I am not particularly religious either but I do believe in God for sure and this makes me feel good :) So thanks for the tune ! And btw God sends a message to ya that your "Blessed" thats all the sign ya need my friend :) Just remember it always !

Well I have a lot to learn about production techniques!! I echo Chris's comments on the clever key changes in the solo and also thats one hell of a set of lungs on you, Danny. Great Post! Good luck with the CD.

Cracks me up that this is buried in originals lol? Oh man I've heard this a whole lot and this is the guitar sound/mix treatment I wish it had always had. If I had my own radio station his would go on immediate heavy rotation. I can't possibly come up with anything critical about this, you either like this stuff or you don't because it is nailed here. Unbelievable control on the lead.

Hi Lora, thanks!! Good to hear from you. Glad ya liked the tune...we gotta catch up one of these days. I hope all is going well for you! ;)

Hanz: Thanks a lot! Yeah this recording stuff ain't easy that's for sure. It's taken me nearly 20 years and I still learn something new everyday. It's like anything else, you just gotta stick with it, pick peoples brains whenever ya can, and the most important thing of all...make sure what is coming out of your monitors is REALLY what is supposed to be coming out of your monitors. The greatest thing I ever did was purchase a room correction plugin called ARC by IK Multimedia. It's a bit pricey, but it makes all your recording frustrations go away instantly because you always hear things correctly. Ending recording frustration...heck bro, we can't put a price on that. ;)

Eric! Hey man, thanks a lot! I kinda figured if you signed on you'd dig this version of the tune. I was going to email it to you, but didn't want to impose. I actually have a more solid mix of it now than the one that's been posted. Did some tightening on the low end, brought up the vox and rhythms guitars a bit more as well as the lead. I've lived with that particular mix for about 3 days now, so it's safe to say that's going to be the final one. Not much different than this one other than tighter and deeper low end. Glad ya enjoyed it bro, thanks and hey, gimme a call or shoot me an email sometime. Been too long! Hope all is well. ;)

This should be required listening.

Been playing it ever since you sent it to me, that track didn't have the choir. But after hearing this one, the choir was everything you said it would be and more:D

You are a talented, and unique guitar player, songwriter, and human being. Don't let anyone ANYWHERE make you have second thoughts about the way you are;)

All the best,

Jay

Phew, great tune, well written, played / sung and recorded Danny, not that you need me to tell you that! LOL. This is the stuff I grew up on and this style of tune is every bit enjoyable now as it was back then. Its also great to hear a tune that means something too, and not just about breaking up with a girl, LOL. Really enjoyed this one Bro. :thumb:

5 Stars from me, has everybody forgot to vote!...

dan huff? good choice of a comparison. like him you also rip up the guitar and have an awsome voice too. not to be outdone by your production skills either. i have listened to the stuff on your site a while ago and was always going to purchase it but you know how we forget stuff. of course i will expect autographed copys.lol. this is a good reminder to do so. your lyrics and songwriting skills are excellent. too bad we kick god out of our schools, communities, and daily lives and wonder why bad stuff happens. god doesn't go where he isn't wanted so the darker forces do. its time to wake up people. so anyway this is another quality song from you. those solos were amazing and i look foreward to more from you. glad to see you posting stuff up for us. very much appreciated. you are at a level of misicianship that we all would love to acheive someday. never take your talent for granted either. you are lucky to be able to do what you are doing and most of us would give anything to be able to do it. now back to give it a listen in the headphones

Send me the file of course! I should get an automatic upgrade to vers 2.0 since I have the cd :naughty:!
If your reworking the other tunes send them to me when you get them done, love to hear and have them.
Saw the BS thread on that other site re this, don't pay attention to that and don't alter anything you would normally do or say for someone else, like Jay said. It's strange times when people get offended by something like that.

Will do on the phone call maybe Sat night :)

eamon: Thanks so much dude, I appreciate that! Well, I don't really take part here as often as I'd like to mostly due to other sites I have been associated with that took up quite a bit of my time. But I've weeded 2 of them out recently so you may see a bit more of me here. I also (as strange as this may sound) sometimes don't get that "welcome" feeling over here, which is ok...I'm used to that really. But I'm not one to comment on other material unless I'm asked. This way I can give an honest answer.

My honesty is my problem though and not everyone can take to that. I'm not a bedroom guitarist, I'm not a hobbiest and I'm not someone that stops by here to exploit myself or sell my cd's. I'm a serious musician that's pretty experienced and some people don't want to hear my side of the story when it comes to their tunes. That doesn't make me any better than anyone, it just puts me in the "experienced" category really. There's guys that can blow circles around me on this site, but they may not have the experience I have so I can be helpful. ;)

So I listen to just about everything on this site, and just keep my opinions to myself. Because I take that route, I know that people will not listen to my stuff and that's ok too. I just post stuff up in the event someone may enjoy the stuff, may want to ask me a question or something and I have about 6 friends here. I'm really easy to talk to, love to give advice/help people and just tell it like it is. But for some, this isn't what they want to hear. Sure it's all opinion at the end of the day, but I live, sleep, eat music 24/7 in both a professional studio realm and the music industry realm. It can be way too intense for people to handle when I start yappin...and it's been my downfall on every site I've belonged to, honestly.

I also agree on the God thing you mentioned, but God isn't for everyone and I'd never force my beliefs on anyone. Hell I wrote a song that prays for the world and I pray for the world all the time....it started one of the biggest fights of all time on another site. Simply because I loved humanity enough to ask MY God to bring good things to others whether they believed or not. Enter in a guy that takes it all wrong and that I've done it because I think I'm higher and mightier than him, and bang...a blow-out. Go figure...the world is an evil place bro. Thanks again for the kind words! ;)

You got it....I'll mail you the updated version right now and I'll take care of you on the others as they are completed. :) Yeah that BS was uncalled for...I love when people post "you guys" when it's obvious someone else initiated the personal attack, and I'm not supposed to defend myself? When someone attacks another like I was attacked and singled out, the phrase "you guys" should never be mentioned. I have the right to fight back and justify myself in any way I see fit in a situation like that. I've experienced a little too much over there to remain. As a matter of fact, the whole net thing is getting old to me. I'll probably lurk more often than participate on the few sites I still frequent. Talk to ya soon brother E!

Danny.. Great song, super playin' and super production..what more could ya want huh!?

Solo was super sweet man and your vox were superb. I saw that other crap too man,and i think your lettin' that get to ya too much. I'm not religious at all,but i can still enjoy the tune and 'that comment' was totally fine by me! Thanks Nag. I still dig that piece you posted over there...and I don't care what ya say about that guitar tone...I think it rules and ya played like a maniac! :moon: LOL!

Thanks Rid, ah you don't have to be religious to enjoy a tune, right? I'm not what ya call super religious, but I do believe in God and say my prayers. ;) In my opinion, I like it much better believing there is a God than believing there is nothint at all. Thanks again.

Danny, this is an incredible song and you are a truly incredible musician! I loved the original on the "Somewhere Lost In Time" CD....1999 and I love the advanced production and new flavors you have brought to the table! I can't fathom trying to mix 100 or more tracks! I can hear many influences of the musicians you enjoy but most of all I hear a professional musician...vocalist , songwriter, guitarist, drummer, production engineer and lyricist all in one dynamic individual! Song writing is your forte! You deliver the melodic guitar leads with skill and ease... and always the hook, reels you in for yet more listening pleasure when you think it can't get any better! You never fail to deliver! I echo Tang in his remarks," You are a talented, and unique guitar player, songwriter, and human being. Don't let anyone ANYWHERE make you have second thoughts about the way you are!" NEVER EVER, Danny D!
Shakespeare said it well in Hamlet..This above all: to thine ownself be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
Allowing someone else to define who we are, we lose our ability to discover and grow inwardly. You know who you are and that is what defines Danny D as a unique musician and human being! Rock on Danny Danzi!

As for your comments on not commenting :wtf: ... you know what I mean  I for one am always willing to listen to helpful advice from those who know more than me, which is about 99% of the regulars here :D Most ppl here feel the same I'm sure. Post your advice mate, if someone gets the hump then avoid commenting on their post's again. Mare: thanks I appreciate that...thanks for your awesome friendship and support over the years. :)

Steve: thanks man, I'm glad you liked it. As for commenting, those "humps" you speak about are the death of me bro....and it actually turns me off to the point of not getting involved. That sort if thing seems to follow me around on every site...after a few years of it, you learn to just keep to yourself. ;) But if you ever post anything and would like me to give it a listen and seriously critique it, feel free to send me a message and tell me whether you want me to speak publicly or in private. That goes for others as well.

Sometimes I just don't feel comfortable speaking about someone's child if you know what I mean. It's best to be invited so I know for sure I've got the green light. ;) I'm never harsh though....I just tell it like I hear it on my gear using the years of experience I've been fortunate enough to have. But some people aren't very open minded. I never speak or advise for the sake of having a voice. I'd help pinpoint problem areas, not judge a piece in my own image. To me, comments like that are pretty meaningless. I like to listen to a piece the way it was delivered to me, not the way I may have done it....unless specifically asked of course. ;) Thanks man!

Danny: No it probably won't be released. It's for entertainment lawyer purposes only. However, when it is complete, anyone owning SLIT (for those wondering, SLIT stands for Somewhere Lost In Time lol) can have the updated tunes, so no worries, I'll hook you up when they are all done. Looks like it will be Save Us, Lost Without Your Love, SLIT the song, Is Love A Lie, possibly All The Time and definitely Pop Goes The What. So I'll include those tunes, a few of the ones from DanziLand and then maybe 4 new tunes to give my attorney some new firepower. Those won't be released until the new album. Instrumental thing is on hold for right now, but the material is nearly all written. That's for fun though, so it's not as important as this other stuff right now. I'll keep ya posted, no worries bro. Thanks for your interest. :)

Shit man now im psyched up for it all. I was waiting to see if you mentioned "Dirty Mean and Nasty", that is one of the ones on there that production wise is probably closest to the sound you are currently trying to get on the redo's. It is also one of my favourites from SLIT, rocks hard. Aight man, I will keep my eyes peeled and my ears open for more news as it comes. Rock as hard as this guy and all will be badass im sure.
