After listening to the live version of Hells Bells on the AC/DC donington album I wondered if my band could cover it , as we already do 2 of their songs, which I sing,Back in Black and Highway to Hell.I decided to record it to give me an idea what it would sound like with me singing it.I miked up the ashdown for the guitars and bass, programmed the drums using ez drummer and put down all the vocals.Don't think the neighbours are very impressed ,as i had to really go for this otherwise it doesn't sound right:naughty: Anyhow, bugger them ha ha.:)
Used the bell from the back in black album and tried to get the bpm from that.Think it's a little slower than the original but it only took me a couple of nights and this afternoon to put it together. The guitar is my les paul, but I think its time to get another sg for this type of stuff.

Well done Lippy:headbang:
the whole thing was put together really well.Youre singing was bang on sounded just like Brain Johnson even down to his vocal inflections. And the guitar was Top Quality great solo too.
I think you guys could easily do a tribute to ACDC if your voice could take it!
Enjoyed that.

Cheers Slicer, just put the vocals up a bit in the above remix !!:)Used ozone 3 but it seems to lose a bit of middle in upload though.I'll see what everybody thinks and I might put it up a little more,as it's still in mixing phase.

Yep, that was bang on Lippy!!! Great vocals mate, you've got Brian Johnston down to tee. Bet the old throat is paying for it! Absolute killer sound from the guitar and superb solo. Fantastic cover of this. I was listening to the same album yesterday after not listening to it for a while and thought, yeah this is proper good! 5 stars easy.

Fuck me Dave! You sound just like Johnson, it's very surreal as I can't picture you singing like that. The whole thing is spot on though drums could do with being a bit higher. Oh aye, when your lass has managed to ease your bollocks back down from your throat, get yourself out and buy that SG, they sound great. A Big 5*****'s matey :thumb:

cheers Pete :) It's taken a couple of years of singing ac/dc live to get it something like but I just worked it out recently so I'm actually singing rather than screaming:lol: Might start using this voice on some of my own stuff and see what comes out.:boobies:Just having a few beers to cool down the old throat now.:drink:  :D

Well ... wtf can I say mate?
Vocals .... f!ck me!! almost perfect Johnson
Playing ... excellent ... great 'Angus' vibrato and attitude in there.
Mixing ... bloody good.
Guitar sound/tone ... brill ... love it ... but a tad too 'full' and 'rounded' for authentic Angus ... yeh ... needs an SG for sure ... Pauls are just too nice & sweet-sounding for it.
BT ... again, sounds great ... but seemed to drag behind the beat in a few paces & left me thinking "c'mon ... kick it UP a gear".
But generally mate ... the judges say ...

Cheers John..spot on on all counts. The thing about having a good valve amp is it reproduces the exact sound of your guitar,so my strat sounds like it should and so does the les paul(finally):) Might try to pick up the speed a bit halfway through as the problem of midi is it stays at 1 pace.A real band has a tendancy to speed up as we are only human, which is actually good.
Paul..thanks mate, dunno where I have got this voice from but I think I'll use it in more songs.:boobies:

Blinkin Flip.... I see a whole load of ACDC cover requests for vox coming your way! Really ballsy tone. I like it. I love the chords coming out of the chorus.
Woulda liked it a touch faster though! Bands always play their stuff a bit faster live, and this had a very live feel to it.

:headbang: the VOICE! the VOICE! Bloody hell Dave, for everyone who disses Brian Johnson, I hear 1 in a 1'000 who can come close. You're that one mate. That means you should also consider covering some Cinderella and anything off the Motley Crue 'Motley Crue' album!!! :naughty: I'm not 100% convinced on the rythm guitar sound tho the playing was exemplary. I've started to get where Angus pitches his sound now...it's two from the left of Ron Wood but three from the right of someone like Luke Morley so it's vintage with guts. When you get to that little middle section with a little blues scale riff on two strings, I back of the volume on my guitar cos that really is about as distorted as the Stones but LOUD! That little bit was the most convincing to me. BUT the solo had all the right traits...vibrato, guts etc. Good job!
When I lived in Chiswick in London, I was friendly with this guy called Dave Liddel who was Paul Weller's guitar tech. Anyway he woned this shop that was built into one of the bridge arches of Kew Bridge and I used to go down there and try stuff out and drink coffee (never bought much!) and this geordie guy used to come in and very firtively look right and left before disappearing into a unit at the back...I used to call him Secret Squirrel! One day he went out and I asked Dave's son who the feck he was and he told me he was a guitar tech in the UK for Bruce Springsteen, George Harrison, Bryan Adams and Angus Young! So I asked if we could have a look in 'the back' and he let me. The place was full to the brim with stuff and there were at least 6 Vox AC30's and about 10 Marshall 45w heads from about 1970. We plugged one in and took an SG out of it's case (presumably Angus'!), put it on 10 and hit an A5...we nearly blew the fricking roof off!!!! Amazingly powerful and hardly any distortion. That's what you need mate...a 45 watt Marshall head!!!
Great take anyways mate...your voice and solo floored me and the drums and the bass sounded 'well 'ard'. 5 easily.!!!!

Thanks for the compliments Chris, they mean a lot my old mate!!
I'm trying to get back to basics as regards recording guitars, which is basically an amp and cab with a mike in front of it.Unfortunatly I can't play my amp at the volume I want, due to it being in the house , so I have to use more gain on the pre-amp:dammit: ,live i use my amp with the gain backed off a little and at greater volume so the guitar doesn't break up as much and use the boost during solos. For 190 quid that ashdown has been a real bargain !!Also, as a 3 piece I have to make up for not having another guitarist, which sometimes playing songs with a little more gain than normally needed, which I have got into the habit of when recording.:) The beauty of doing these recordings is it gives me an idea of what I actually sound like, which gives me the confidence to try it with the band.:naughty: As regards the voice,as I sing back in black, live,it gave me the confidence to have a go at this track and I found it reasonably easy once I'd sussed it,it's more from the stomach and the back of my throat than normal singing.
Thanks also Hans !:thanks: I've just done a slightly faster version, which I,ve done using acid pro and it does move better.:boobies:

i don't know how you can sing that. my nuts hurt just thinking about it. sounded kick ass.
My thoughts exactly!!! I liked Brian Johnson's voice the first time I heard it, though it took some getting used to after Bonn Scott. I think Brain added edge and grit to their sound they didn't have before, and since then they've been hugely popular. I know the boys were devistated with Bonn's death though, and missed him terribly. I also like how humble and gracious Brian was/is when ever you saw him interviewed about Bonn Scott.
You just nailed the vox dude! Also agree that the track could be a few bpm's faster, guitar playing was great, just a matter of tweaking the tones [or buy an SG?]. 5***** here bro!

The vocals were just brilliant I swear I could smell bourbon and nicotine when you sang hahah.
Keep it up!
