Tried this one today as I wanted to see if I could record what I was playing into Cakewalk and then import it into Windows Movie Maker...you can BUT I found it a faf about. When I do videos I always use whatever sound is coming thru the studio speakers and capture that on the crappy mic built into the camcorder. This time I ran Cakewalk, recorded what I was playing and saved it as a wav. Then I imported it in to Movie Maker but trying to line it up was a bastard! I could only keep on dragging the wav along the time line but it was only coming in about 50 ms clumps so took ages.
What I'd like to know is:
1. Is there a way to sync both files up with a lot less hassle than I had???
2. If not, is there a cheap movie editing prog that will sync it up?
As for the playing, well it's a bit unimaginative to say the least. Couldn't get into a groove with what is one of my fave backers to play to. Just didn't wanna do it today. However, sound quality is better and I also tried some of the effects (sepia tone, titles flying in etc). Once again, is there something much better than the Microsoft one? I'm not really up on this type of stuff. :thumb:

Camtasia studio is much better than Windows Movie Maker but when it comes to syncing audio to video, I found that Magix Movie Editor worked best for me. I used it for a video jam we did.

Thanks Pete...I'm vice versa on that cos the playing was better and I repeated meself many times on this one. There's a better take in there if I can stop thinking about everyfrickinthing else! :thumb:

Yeah, I see what you mean. The clumsy, fumbling way your fingers are flying all over the fretboard ... the poor note choices .... the terrible vibrato and off tome bends. 'Bout time you packed it in and took up tree surgery or sommat instead.
Have I mentioned lately how much I hate you ya overtalented and overmodest old git :maddance:

The ultimate and pro package is Adobe Premiere, for video stuff theres nothing that comes close imo.
if you use a POD XT you should be able to select that as your recording source within the video capture software this should allow you to record the sound directly onto your video, this will record your guitar only, and then you could add the backer later.
but if you want to record all at the same time I think you can record all the audio you hear on your pc by selecting to record via stereo rather than line in etc. that should work, it should record everything regardless of were its input.
I will have a look and get back to you Chris.
by the way the vid was well cool m8, nice to see you performing a piece.
that was the 1 you kicked my arse with of Musician war lol

here ye go m8 :)
this was within Microsoft video maker help,
Audio device
Lists the available audio capture devices you can use for capturing audio. If you have only one audio capture device, such as your default sound card, that device is selected automatically.
This option is available only for analog devices.
Audio input source
Lists the available connection input lines based on the number of input connections available for the selected audio device. For example, if you have a microphone attached to the microphone line input of your computer, you would choose Microphone as the audio input source.
This option is available only for analog devices with multiple line inputs.
so this means you should be able to do this.
In the audio input source you need to select stereo mix, to do this bring up your soundcard levels mixer. (double click the speaker icon bottom right in your window bar)
Go to options when it pops up and select properties, there you can change the mixer device and wether to view your recording levels and play levels.
Select recording, here you can change your recording source and level of that source, select stereo mix by clicking on the select box.
you should now be able to record any sound going through your PC.
and also record it directly onto your video in real time.
but this audio recording source must be also selected in the capture software.
if you think it would benefit guitarblast members I will do an artical with pictures explaining how to do it.

Seriously tho Steve, 'fingers flying over the fretboard' just shows I know some scales...and I've practised them. What is misiing from this is any 'spark' that was on the original one I did. I play it three times a week at least and ALWAYS better than this. Seem to be self-conscious of the camera seeing as I'm the size of a small republic! Vibrato and bends are part of my playing but the wrong note choise is too bloody true. Thanks for watching mate. :)

Thanks for that Bully. I'm going to choose one of these programs but my main issue was getting them to sync up more easily. I can just use Cakwalk and record the piece as I play thru the monitors. Windows Movie Maker allows me to either hear all the stuff from the camera, all the stuff from the mp3 OR a mix to whatever percentage you want...that's good enough. :)

If you read my second post m8, you dont have to sync the sound it will record straight onto the video capture in real time :)
I will do a step by step tutorial explaining exactly how to do it and place it up.
all you are doing is selecting a different audio source to record when capturing the video, Stereo mix option records everything going through your PC so if you can record the video with the camera and record the audio to the video straight from your PC you dont need to sync anything :)

Thanks mate...it lags behind by a few millisecs. I'm sure it's not as bad when I play it here so maybe it's a coding thing. Hehe...show-off? Not on this one mate...my confidence was low and I was too conscious of the tape rolling. I AM gonna do more tho. I've been asked a few times about my ridiculous pinch harmonics (because I don't 'pinch'!) so thats a workshop thing I'd like to do. :thumb: With a box over my head!!!!! :dammit:

Could tell you weren't 'appy or comfortable there mate ... the expression said it all ... miserable b*****d that you are!
CRACK A SMILE F.F.S!! :D
nah-h ... still sounded good from up 'ere ... but hear what you say about inspiration & 'feel' & whatnot ... nevertheless, consider this ... on an 'off' day ... you still beat the pants off most other guys I've heard (definitely off any of those I've known).
Know it's not much consolation tho' when you're feeling like you want to stick your fingers in a vice & turn the screw.
Still sounds ace to me regardless & I'm sure you'll have the ol' creative juices flowing again by now (oo-er ... but don't tell Annie!) and have that big grin on yer moosh again soon :boobies:

All true mate. I'm worn out to be honest. The teaching and house move have burned me out at the moment. Gonna recoup my energy over the next 8 weeks (got some private lessons but SCHOOLS OUT!) and generally chill with the bairns. On a better note, just did a track today for a Walter Trout competition and really enjoyed it and like the finished article. :)

hehe...comments when imbibing or partaking in Bolivian Marching Powder do make for an interesting and rewarding read! True tho, I did not look happy. Any comparisons with Tang are encouraged as he's a monster. :boobies:
