In the near future, Toorop (Vin Diesel) is a mercenary who takes the job of escorting a woman from Eastern Europe to New York. While he thinks this is just an ordinary mission, he gradually finds out that his guest is carrying an organism that has the potential to become the next Messiah — and everybody wants to get their hands on it.

Vin Diesel as Toorop, a mercenary
Michelle Yeoh as Sister Rebecca, a nun
Mélanie Thierry as Aurora, a young woman who has been genetically altered
Gerard Depardieu as Gorsky
Charlotte Rampling as Neolite Priestess
Lambert Wilson as Dr. Arthur Darquandier
Mark Strong as Finn

Babylon A.D. was originally slated to be released in the United States on February 29, 2008, but its release has been postponed to August 29, 2008.

I've watched this numerous times, if they add 15 or 20 minutes to it to flesh out characters, motivations and the like, they have a neat little SciFi romp on their hands. As it is, it is mediocre fair with just enough to make it worth watching. I do like Vin though, he's seemingly universally hated and looked down on... maybe that's why I like him... I feel bad for the guy.

p.s. I love Chronicles of Riddick too mandy (and yeah, Pitch Black, to a slightly lesser extent to be honest). It is CRIMINALLY underated for 2 reasons. 1) Vin is in it and 2) people like to be fed everything in small easy to understand chunks, god forbid they figure shit out on their own.

Yeah, I thought it was a wasted opportunity to show life in the future better...for instance at the beginning they showed him buying a small animal-not sure if it was a dog or cat or whatever but not everyday stuff of today. I just think the idea fizzled out somehow. Not as bad as 'Doomsday' tho...what a piece of crap that is! It descended into 'Mad Max and The Thunderdome' from being a '28 Days Later' rip-off in about 30 minutes!!! :maddance:

I clocked it at 90 minutes tops. Congratulations on swallowing the opinions of the regular critic snob and shitting them out as your own though.

You're holding a grudge from something that happened about 3 or 4 years ago and I noticed it instantly in 2 comments you posted right after me. I suggest you get over it, I did, 3 or 4 years ago. If it makes you feel any better, I appologise for whatever I did that brought about your eternal tears.

I am pretty much in agreement with this. It did seem like one too many missed opportunities to show a plausible future. And a couple borrowed elements from the FAR superior Blade Runner. But overall it's a worthwhile rental, something to enjoy on a nice HDTV with surround sound then forget about a week later.

I ain't got no grudge mate, don't even remember what you're talking about.
However I haven't been having a go at you at all... you're just being a prick as usual. In fact your the one that attacked me, when I was expressing my feelings in general upon this movie....
