Kickass entry sadge! I can't believe this tune has the same base as the one I'm working on for my own entry. Sounds so different. This is so good ;)

Well guys that is just an explosive start to this months entries :yourock: , you wouldn't think both songs were done on the exact same BT, and the difference is just superb, just what this month is all about
Sadge, really excellent instumental entry, had a cool Satch vibe to my ears, lovely playing, tones and use of the backer too, great work :thumb:
Johnny, a brilliant take too, with the vocals and the solo, it changes the feel of it so much much, you too have really made it your own, loved the style you chose and the vocals/lyrics, really great work :thumb:
If all the entries are as good as this, its going to be a superb month, and i'm sure it will be

Gotta say Sadge,..man nice playing bro! 2 totally different feels here between yours and mine! Doesn't even sound like the same backer! Nice work man!
Av,..thanks for the great backer. I'm glad I got in this one. It was a blast doing it and letting some frustration/steam off on it! Can't wait to hear what the other entrées are like!!

I promised myself that i wouldn't listen to the entrys until i had mine finished so as not to influence me.
But i just had to listen to these first 2 by Johnny and Sadge these guys did some great stuff with this backiing track!.Excellent singing by Johnny with a strong heavy style, and Sage's entry was well produced with the Synth and added bass and great trem work as well.
hell of a start  looks like this will be a real battle:chucks:

Hey Johnny... Great entry man !!!
Love the tone and playing on rhythm and lead guitars..... perfect for the "punk vibe" you went for. Vox work great as well.....
I'm gonna put my hearing at risk later and listen to this with the "cans" on for maximum effect LOL LOL
I'm looking forward to hearing other guys takes on Av's BT, as the diversity in styles of these first two entries is massive..... taking into consideration that they both utilise the same backer !!!!!
Seems to me that this diversity is exactly what Avalon had in mind when he thought up this months theme... good call Av !!

It certainly is :) , although i can't claim all the credit, Mart (Bahamut) and myself work very closely on all the themes, jams and everything each month, so its by no means a solo effort on my part :)

Thanks bro! Yeah Av always comes to the table with something massive and he did it again with this one! After this is all said and done!,..I'm gonna ask him if he can re-write the backer with one more chorus so I can re-record it into a full song. I would like to add one more chorus to it and redo the entire song with a little more production and mixing!
I did this one in like 45 minutes,..I'm sure you can tell,..it kinda sounds like shit! LMAO!! Anyway,..great take on the song man and good luck with your entry!! It sounds great.

Sadge, that was some burst of inspiration! Real nice melodic playing, shows that you spent some time on it.
Johhny, real angry punk vibe, and I thought I knocked mine up quick  Took me twice as long! Guitar tone and vox fit really well.
Two great entries, and I thoght I had a chance too :bigcry:

same here. i listened to a little bit of sages and decided not to listen to any more because i don't want to be influenced either. not sure what i'll come up with with the way the backer is laid out as for verse, bridge and chorus for adding vocals.
is it ok to alter the backer such as splitting it up piecing it together so it works like intro, verse, bridge, chorus, etc?

Excellent entry Steve, gets my vote :devilchil: , this is the 3rd completely original entry on the same fast backer, i'm really loving this month so far, and this is excellent Steve, the lyrics, and the style too, its got abit of Motorhead to it which is very cool :)
Another cracking entry :thumb:

The power chords left and the fills on the right work really well with a great gritty tone and the solo is great too. The lyrics i love, especially that line right at the end, it fitted perfectly. Quality.:yourock: :funny:

I was VERY interested to hear someones take on it and I am not disappointed !! The arrangement, playing and tone are awesome..... reminds me a lot of early Scorps (Lonesome Crow, Fly to the Rainbow) .... are you a fan???

I used a Rocktron Banshee talk box i got around Xmas but havent used it for recording until last night.Wanted a more vocal style guitar to take the place of singing.
P.S thanks also for taking time to post something for me Steve.
Thanks also Ukelele,I really liked yours too the anolgy that it sounded like Dire Straights (The band Not your plaing) was a good one to use

Me again. Thought I'd leave some feedback. :)
Sadge: Wicked lead sound - really creamy - and great melodies. Luvin' the effortless shifts of flavour between sections and I can really hear a 'theme tune' vibe to it all. Ace. :D
Johnny: Funk as Puck! ;) Pretty full on, high energy, raucous stuff ya got there! The cat looked at me funny when I tried to start pogoing with him.
SteveG: I've got a weirdness going on since listening to your tune. Your voice appears to have manifested itself in my head and keeps telling me to vote for you and when I'm singing along to Johnny's tune, it keeps corrupting the lyrics to "don't vote for me" (Johnny - I'd have words with him ;)). Also, I'm now finding that when I try to write a song I can't think of an ending. Is this some sort of Jedi mindtrick, or have you been planting subliminal messages in your tune? ;)
Naifuzan: My ear was well and truely caught by that sweet tone at the start. Lurvely!! :) Dunno if it's what you were going for, but I heard a Metallica (circa '86-'92) vibe to it, especially the clean sound coupled with the backer. Top stuff. :D
Ukelele: Your counting capabilities are phenomenal. I can only get to 4, so to go beyond twenty thousand was mind blowing! Genius. Cool sounds too. :D
Parker1963: Talk box-tastic! I thought it was going to kick into a screaming lead, so the talk box was a nice surprise. Catchy riff as well. Great stuff. :D

Wonderful chord choice against the bass notes... beautiful stuff mate
The melody is perfect and beautifully played with the wah.

Thanks for the listen and the feedback. As for the axe i am using , it is an S470 plugged into a Line6 GuitarPort using a blues setting, of which i cant remember the name off the top of my head. The trem effect is post recording using Cool Edit Pro 2. The pup's are stock off the shelf i just tweak the height a tad to make em sound a bit less plastic, as most Ibanez can do. I was using the single/Bridge combination for that Strat tone.
Once again, thanx for the listen and feedback.

Thanx Avalon. I think you are the one to be thanked for such splendid BT's to work with. As most others have stated it is amazing how diverse the entries are given the fact there are only 2 BT's to choose from. I am glad i didnt listen to other entries before doing this or i would have been stymied. I dont know why the thought to use both BT's but when i pasted em together it was AMAZING, so i went with it after getting your approval of course.
Thanks again for the listen, the welcome and your feedback. This is a great Competition this month. I am glad i joined when i did.

The 'organ' guitar is just a batch of fx, no Leslie or Roto Vibe - it's all in the settings. The ingredients include tremelo, auto wah, phaser (set to stun  ), chorus and delay, with sprinkle of eq and compression to fine tune it. You can get a pretty similar sound out of just chorus, phaser and delay (which is what it started out life as - I tweaked it with the other fx as and when I aquired them). Stick it all through an amp with a smidging of gain for that excitable edge, add a splash of reverb and then use your fingers to pick the chords for a more pianoed feel. :D
Now your turn ;).... What's behind your creamy lead sound?

Sadge, your track has such a smooth edge and yet it bites into you with a melody that will not let you rest until it is finished with its story. I loved the dual guitars as well.
Johnny, i have to admit i am not a fan of punk yet you turned this track into something i am still shaking my head over. Very intriguing.
SteveG's track is a totally different direction. Theres tidbits of punk and straight forward rock. The vocals really made this one come together.
Naifuzan's take on this was a bit sultry and quite refreshing. After most of the others have used the fast BT you used the Slow BT and made it work for you in every way possible. You even added some heaviness to it for good measure and kept that same groove going but added some balls.
Ukelele has a very 80's pop groove going on. I couldn't decide if it was more Pink Floyd meets Flock of Seaguls or what.. but it was quite interesting. MTV is waiting man.
Parker1963, you have a very cool Sabbathian riff going into the intro, i was expecting it to start really taking off then you hit in with your Talk Box and it just made it all work together yet you kept the same pace. Nice melody line with the use of the Talk Box.
I thought the Originality of Mulletman's track was awsome. Had a slow an sultry groove that made you want to kick back and melt into it. Made me feel as if i was tripping. Nice job.
This will truly be a hard one to vote on.

Sadge: loved the style you got going on in this mate , just wondering what it reminds me of but can't quite put my finger on it but i do love the arrangement of it and the tasty melodic playing
Johnny: definetly in your face punk like sounding from my cans here mate , captured the punk spirit in all its form and spirit , i was pretty suprised actually cos you wouldn't think Sadge and yourself are using the same bt , so excellent work on this :devilchil:
Steve: another punk like entry but well diffrent from Johnny's and full of your energy(even if you did have a cold) with great vocals n guitaring , suprised once again cos your using the same bt as Sadge, Johnny , and yet completely diffrent results but still capturing the punk spirit and sounding excellent mate :boobies:
Naifuzan: excellent work on this Naif , has like a moody come happy blues feel to it which works a treat , its interesting to hear how you approached the slow bt (as i saw you were the first to use it) , gotta say you put it to excellent use with some fine playing mate , just like Sadge, Johhny, Steve have with theres , phew this is gonna be a close comp this month and im only halfway through the entrys lol :naughty:
Ukelele: don't listen?? my arse lol and you did great work on this Tony , i loved the clean rhythm you had going on especially on the right side , plus who can't but admire your counting skills lol , haha lovely playing over this mate , this is what its all about , enjoying yourself
Parker: sweet Hendrix kinda feel to this mate , great rhythm work leading into the song with the ol talk box kicking in, lovely guitarwork throughout and a welcome suprise to add to your entry and i gotta say every entry so far has been diffrent and fantastic :devilchil:
Mulletman: lovely work on this mate , liked the clean but wah like lead you put into action on this , also liked the way you applied the rhythm with the floaty like arrangement , another enjoyable entry , ooh and welcome to forum mate :)
GuitarFreak824: i thought you used both the bts into one with style mate , the first part is kinda like easing you into the guitaring and then bam! it jumps into a diffrent tempo and shows the best of both from slow n fast tempo paces , lovely guitaring on this and welcome to the forum also mate
Well i gotta say with all the entrys everyone sounds fantastic and to think we all sound diffrent aswell
When Jam and i were working on the ideas for the themes we wanted them to be really freeform , so mission accomplished i think , well done again guys for all the excellent entrys , gonna be one of the hardest months of all time voting wise :chucks:

Bahamut, i think your entry is spectacular. You used every second of this to make an audioscape that was breathtaking. Great job on the choice here. I liked the rhythm just layering in the background. The leads were quite lively yet soulful. Nothing wrong with this track man.

Bahamut, just listened to your track - top stuff. :thumb: Some great harmonics ya got going there and some wicked chord voicings. The meandering feel to the development of the track really helped that dreamy sound. I also thought it had moments of Satch, with a splash of Vai here and there. :D

Just started the epic listening on these fellas...Awesome job Bahamut, loved the lazy ans spacious chord work paired w/ the flowing Vai-like lead lines, that also sizzled at just the right points.
I'll try to get through them all in the next few days, adding some comments as I work my way through the list, and look forward to checking out how everybody approached this particular piece...

....And Jeffery brings it to a nice round 10!
There's some great shredtastic stuff ya got in ya jammin' Jeffery - lots of techniques crammed into it. I liked those tapped runs - the first of them was wonderfully Satriani-esque - and sweeps are always a smirk. Top banana. :D

Sadge-Sweet tone; very melodic and very good bends; very tasteful
Johhny-You have achieved and turned it intoa cool punk tune, very aggressive, and you did a good job with the mix
Gtr Freak-I got sucka punched; love the western flavor start than bam!!! like the legato lick at about 38 sec.
Mullet Man-Nice use of the wah, and the background vamps were sweet.
Bahamut-Dude this sent shivers up my spine very spacious Vai tone; you let the notes sing and really good taste and use of the w-bar-a rare art these days
Ukelele-cool vox; what I liked the most was the lead fills and the really cool rythmn backing you added
Steve G- Lemmy move over-tone was right for the song, so is there a message to the song lol; it was cool!!!!!
Naif-Whoo!! a composition! This was soulful, and loved the soul in this and the harmonized lines; like a cool MSG/Mettalica vibe-
All this was incredible-This is just a great month.

Just finished listening to the only two i have not heard yet.Jeff Bavo Lang and Bahamut's entry.
Two really Great entries.
JBL's had lightning fast runs ala Paul Gilbert in structure and solid solo tone and flowed really well with the fast pace of the backer.I also liked Bahamuts entry it was very spacious and i liked the harmonic pinches and different scales used as well.
Nice going guy's and good luck in the contest.:)
