Hi there Geordie,

Have to go into assume mode here. I'm assuming that you have more than one p.c. connected to a router / hub / whatever.

So I'm assuming that the P.C.'s have the same i.p. address for some reason.

One way that you can easily check this is by doing the following on both machines:

Click on Start -> Run

In the little Run pop up box, type in cmd and hit enter or click on the OK button. You should now see a command prompt window open up.

Type in:

ipconfig

And hit the enter key.

Look at the value for i.p. addresss returned by the command on the two machines.

If the two are identical, here is your conflict, they need to be unique, even if they are local 192.168.x.x ones. Otherwise, your router doesn't know where to route the packets to and so just chooses the first one that connected and the second one is ignored.

To sort this, you'd have to determine whether you are using static i.p. addresses (I am assuming that you are) and try selecting DHCP (pooled i.p. addresses) on the p.c. that doesn't work (advisable to take a note of settings before you change to DHCP in case for whatever reason you want to switch back to static).

But let us know the output of the ipconfig on the two machines first.

Regards,

Yeah, another cause of all the problems could be due to the stickiness of all of your hardware.

I suggest covering everything with clingfilm.
